I went back to Mario Super Smash Bros
Absolute gold! When I was a kid I think that all I did was come home from a long day at school and play super smash brothers. How could you not like it as a kid? First off it was one of the two best game consoles ever made (in my opinion) the game cube and Nintendo 64. That right there should prove that the game is awesome. The Nintendo 64 is like a legend to anyone in this generation. If you did not own one of these stations as a kid, well then you are an L-7 Weenie. The Game Cube to me is like a bat to David Ortiz, when we are put together magic is made. It’s one of the first video game systems that was such a big hit.
Back to super smash brothers, I was sitting on my computer the other day and thought back to how I used to play super smash brothers. I remembered that even though I played for so long I never got to unlock all the characters. Mr. Game & Watch is one of those characters that doesn’t want me to win. He is impossible to unlock. If you are a guy like me (mediocre at videogames at best) then you might as well just forget it cause you aren’t unlocking him.
Besides that one character, I would say I put in the time and unlocked almost everyone else. That’s the thing with a game like this; you need to put in SO much time to unlock everything you want to achieve. And I honestly thought I put in a tremendous amount of time into this game, but nothing nearly enough to be considered the best. So here it is, I challenged myself to go back to the game and see if I would still have the same feeling of enjoyment (and most importantly if I can unlock Mr. Game & Watch). The first thing I needed to overcome when I was faced with the game was my mental toughness; this game pretty much rattled me. I know “it’s just a videogame” say what you want but this is a mission (I really would love to unlock this guy).
When the game console first came on I honestly couldn’t help but be happy; I mean come on, you go back to a game you haven’t played in years and tell me it doesn’t make you happy. For me it was like when the temptations got back together for their last tour. They were all filled with great excitement but still a little tension from the olden days (remember I never unlocked everyone and well the temptations had their own problems but that’s another story). When I got to the option of the game and chose single player, my brother came downstairs and wanted to have a multiplayer battle. Fantastic. Now it is officially like the olden days. Forget about a battle of the bands; forget about everything because there is no greater rivalry then two brothers playing ANYTHING against each other. We once got into a competition of who can eat our food faster at dinner. That isn’t a joke, I literally ate my food so fast, might as well have been Kobe Ashe at the table; basically vacuum cleaned my dish in minutes. Back to the game though, yes of course I want to play multiplayer with him, what is a better way to remember the game than by playing with my brother right?
We get to the character selection menu, and well I am a classy gamer…. I chose Dr. Mario. POWER MOVE.
Then there goes my brother typical cheat gamer; he picks Kirby. For all of you non-gamers (I don’t know what else you did as a child in that case) Kirby is a bullshit character to choose, it’s practically like using the all-star team in NBA 2K when the other person is picking the Lakers or something, complete crap. I’m serious too you have no idea how Kirby is the guy can infinitely jump, you punch him, he jumps back to safety. Don’t say it, I will for you, bullshit.
I don’t want to sit here and write how I crushed my brother, Kirby losing five lives, Dr. Mario losing two; I really don’t want to talk about how my Pokémon balls absolutely crushed his character. I want to talk about how this game still in fact gave me so much enjoyment, pure genuine happiness.
About Mr. Game & watch I don’t want to talk about it too much, still not good enough to unlock the guy. Honestly fuck him, he shouldn’t be made to be impossible to unlock, normal people are probably never going to be able to unlock him.
PS: That story is true, I DOMINATED my brother.
